Queenstown's Wharehuanui Trail Opening May 2024
The Queenstown Trails new Wharehuanui Trail is on track to open in May, and plans for an opening celebration in conjunction with its annual Trail Lovers Campaign are under way.
Meanwhile, on the Shotover Gorge Trail, work on the foundations for the bridge at Tucker Beach are well underway, and contractors are establishing on site to begin the trail between the bridge and the tunnel. It's expected that the Shotover Gorge Trail will be open in December 2024.
Wharehuanui Trail Highlights
- 14km (Arthurs Point to Millbrook)
- Includes the new 'Arthurs Point Link' section starting near Powder Terrace in Arthurs Point
- Around 100m elevation gain along the length of the Wharehuanui Trail
- Stunning views of the Wharehuanui Basin, Coronet Peak and the Remarkables
- Kuperus Crossing bridge and board walk sections
- Access to/from Coronet Peak MTB trails (Hot Rod, Carryon and Dan O'Connell's)
- The trail winds through the restored Mill Creek Reserve
- The trail joins the existing Queenstown Trails network at Millbrook: follow the Countryside Trail 3.4km to Arrowtown or turn right and travel via Sharp Rise to Ayrburn (Arrowtown's exciting new a food and wine precinct) and Lake Hayes.
