Lake Dunstan Explorer
The Lake Dunstan Explorer offers a ‘water taxi’ shuttle service for those who want to combine a stunning scenic boat trip with their Lake Dunstan Trail bike ride.
The 1 hour trip transports you and your bike from Clyde to a drop-off point at Cromwell or vice versa if you prefer, allowing you to then ride approximately 42km one-way along the trail. It’s a more relaxed and scenic transfer option than the standard bus shuttle, providing a unique perspective of both the trail and surrounding landscapes from the water.
The Lake Dunstan Explorer has a regular schedule with daily departures from both Clyde and Cromwell.

Felton Road Cycleway
This is the first completed leg of the Kawarau Gorge Trail which is currently under construction. The short section of trail in Bannockburn – an easy detour from the Lake Dunstan Trail - traverses one of New Zealand’s most iconic wine growing regions and includes some of Central Otago’s most renowned wineries.
An easy day ride to or from Cromwell, this wine trail is a great way to enjoy a wine tasting experience and lunch at one of the numerous winery restaurants. It connects favourites such as Mt Difficulty, Te Kano and Desert Heart.
The Felton Road cycle path is the first completed leg of the new Kawarau Gorge Trail. Due to open in summer 2025/2026, it will eventually connect the Gibbston River Trail in Queenstown to the Lake Dunstan Trail and wider Otago trail network.
